According to an article recently published, land-based casinos in the USA may support online gambling, particularly online poker. The reason is that they believe this kind of gambling may generate profits without affecting their current business in an excessive way. Apparently, the American Gaming Association is preparing a proposal to ask the Congress to legalize some forms of online gambling.
Some gaming operators, including casino operator giant Harrah’s, have showed their support to legalization for some time, and other members of the traditional gaming industry who have never expressed their opinion, such as Wynn Resorts, are apparently changing their minds now.
The change is certainly due to the high profits involved, according to gambling industry analyst Sebastian Sinclair. “When any industry is confronted with something of this nature, a game changer that is a paradigm shift, the first reaction is to circle the wagons to protect your business,” Sinclair commented.
Brick-and-mortar casinos do not see online poker as a threat mainly because online poker is a popular game and many online poker players go from online rooms to live rooms looking for cash games and major poker tournaments. This is why many members of the gaming industry see online poker as a good place to start when it comes to legalizing online gaming.
